Red White Blue Ice Cubes (Printable)

Layered red, white and blue ice cubes with blueberries, coconut and strawberries for festive summer drinks.

# What You Need:

→ Fruit

01 - 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
02 - 1/2 cup strawberries, hulled and chopped
03 - 1/2 cup fresh coconut meat or unsweetened shredded coconut

→ Liquids

04 - 1 cup coconut water
05 - 1 cup natural blueberry juice
06 - 1 cup natural strawberry juice or cranberry juice

# How To Make It:

01 - Wash blueberries and strawberries thoroughly; hull and chop strawberries. If using fresh coconut, cut into small pieces.
02 - Fill one-third of each ice cube compartment with blueberries; pour in blueberry juice just to cover the fruit. Place ice cube tray in freezer and freeze until solid, about 1 hour.
03 - Add a portion of coconut meat or a sprinkle of shredded coconut over the frozen blueberry layer. Pour coconut water until the next third of the compartment is filled. Return to freezer and freeze until set, approximately 1 hour.
04 - Top each compartment with chopped strawberries and fill to brim with strawberry or cranberry juice. Freeze until completely solid, about 2 additional hours.
05 - Once fully frozen, remove colored ice cubes from tray and add to drinks such as lemonade, sparkling water, or cocktails.

# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • Everyone will ask how you got those stunning layers in your drink.
  • You get a burst of fruity flavor with every sip, not just plain ice dilution.
02 -
  • Don't rush freezing each layer or the colors bleed—learned this after my first tray turned a patriotic swirl.
  • Letting the coconut water chill in the freezer briefly before pouring makes the middle layer extra sharp and defined.
03 -
  • Let each layer freeze just until set—too long and ice crystals may form, too short and the layers blend.
  • Small measuring cups or a squeeze bottle help control the pour for sharper stripes.
